The Vital Role of Trustees at 1st Place
When people think of organisations like 1st Place, they often picture the warm welcome at our Family Hub, the joyful buzz of our nurseries, and the trusted support given to local families. But behind the everyday magic is a team of dedicated individuals who guide and strengthen our work: our Board of Trustees. We are fortunate to be guided by Trustees who bring skills and experience from a range of fields.
From improving our nurseries to expanding our work as a designated Family Hub, our Trustees play an essential role in helping us: deliver safe and nurturing early education, offer inclusive spaces for parents to connect, learn and grow, respond to changing needs across North Southwark, build partnerships that strengthen our community.
What is a Trustee?
Trustees are volunteers who take on a big responsibility — they help steer a charity’s direction and ensure it’s making the biggest possible impact for its community. They protect the organisation’s purpose, people and future by: Providing strategic leadership, making organisational decisions, ensuring legal and financial responsibilities are met, supporting staff teams to deliver high-quality services, holding the organisation accountable to its mission.
Trustees are champions for the people we serve — making sure our decisions always focus on children and families who need support the most.
At 1st Place, our Trustees play a crucial part in the success of both our nurseries and our Family Hub services. They give their time generously, and they believe passionately in the power of early years support to strengthen families and shape brighter futures.
A Huge Thank You
We are incredibly grateful for our Trustees’ commitment, care and wisdom. Their support allows our staff team to focus on what matters most: helping children flourish and empowering families to feel confident, connected and hopeful.
To all our Trustees, past and present, thank you for being champions of 1st Place, and for helping create a future where every child and family in our community can thrive.
