Meet our Trustee: Alice Little
Meet Alice Little, a parent and cognitive neuroscience specialist, passionate about supporting our SEND work, courses, and community support.
“1st Place offered something really special”
I first experienced the exceptional work of 1st Place as a parent, when both of my children attended the nurseries. Compared to other local nurseries, 1st Place offered something really special — both in the genuine love and care of the staff, and in the Reggio Emilia approach to early years education. Coming from an academic background in cognitive neuroscience and working in educational technology, I was excited to join the Board as a parent trustee to understand and help uphold these high standards.
Over time, my focus has naturally shifted to the incredible work of our Community Services (known externally as the Family Hub/Best Start Centre). This part of the charity is truly the heart of our community outreach. I absolutely love the small role I play in supporting the range of services 1st Place offers — from welcoming ‘stay and play’ sessions and parent education courses, to essential SEND groups and targeted family support.
“Being a trustee… is an immensely rewarding experience.”
It is within Community Services that I feel we make the greatest difference. This is where 1st Place steps in to meet the real, immediate needs of families, offering everything from community connection and expert advice to financial assistance via the Rose Vouchers scheme. Being a Trustee, and helping to empower our fantastic staff who deliver these vital programmes, is an immensely rewarding experience.
