Is My Child Too Unwell for school or Nursery?

When to keep your child at home:

If they’ve had vomiting or diarrhoea, wait at least 48 hours after the last episode before returning.

If they have illnesses such as:

High temperature

Chickenpox

Impetigo

Scarlet fever

Seek NHS advice or call 111 if your child:

Has a fever that doesn’t go down

Is very drowsy or hard to wake

Has breathing difficulties, a rash that doesn’t fade, or signs of dehydration

Call 999 in an emergency.

We follow guidance from Public Health England and the NHS. The NHS website explains when to keep your child at home, how to treat common illnesses, and when to seek medical advice.
