Allergy Awareness Week
Allergy Awareness Week: Understanding, Supporting, and Empowering Families
Each year, Allergy Awareness Week shines a light on a health issue that can affect the lives of so many children and families. For those living with allergies - whether to food, pollen, pets, or other triggers, everyday moments can carry hidden risks. But with awareness, compassion, and the right support, families can feel empowered, not isolated.
Allergy Awareness Week 2025 will focus on highlighting three key things everyone needs to know about allergies.
They are:
Allergies can strike at any age
An allergy can make other health conditions such as Asthma worsen
Getting a diagnosis for an allergy matters: it is the key to accessing the right care
Allergies in Early Childhood
For many families, the journey begins in the earliest years. A first reaction might happen at weaning, during playtime, or even from a simple cuddle with a family pet. These moments can be frightening and life-changing. Parents often describe feeling overwhelmed, suddenly navigating medical advice, food labels, and emergency plans, all while trying to protect their little ones and maintain a sense of normality.
Creating Safe Spaces in Nurseries and Beyond
At 1st Place Nurseries, we understand that allergy awareness is about more than just “avoiding certain foods.” It’s about creating inclusive, safe, and understanding environments where every child can thrive and where parents feel confident that their child is seen and supported.
Why Allergy Awareness Matters
Allergy Awareness Week reminds us that:
Allergies can affect every part of family life, from nursery to birthday parties.
No two allergy journeys are the same and every story deserves to be heard and respected.
Education leads to empathy. When children and adults understand allergies, they’re more likely to include, not exclude.
Community & Support
To the families managing allergies every day: we see your strength, your planning, and your care. To the wider community let’s keep learning, keep asking, and keep supporting. Because when we come together, we can make the world safer and kinder for everyone.
We’d love to highlight a family doing just that: @sofo_allergy_journey on Instagram. They’re openly sharing their allergy journey, raising awareness, and offering real-life insight into what it means to care for a child with multiple allergies. Their page is a fantastic resource for families and educators alike - go give them a follow and join the conversation!
@sofo_allergy_journey have also kindly shared a helpful resource with us: a Q&A guide designed to support families, carers, and professionals navigating the world of childhood allergies.
The guide covers essential topics, from practical safety tips to emotional support and inclusion strategies. It also shares the heartfelt story behind why they began the @sofo_allergy_journey and how they became passionate advocates for allergy awareness.
Allergy UK also has loads of great resources, including blogs and guides about a range of topics related to allergies including Decoding Food Allergy Labelling, Supporting children and adolescents to independence with their allergies and much more.
