At 1st Place we know that bringing up young children can be difficult, and at times it can feel overwhelming. Whatever your situation, we will try to help.

We work with lots of other professionals, so even if we cannot help directly we can often introduce you to someone else who can. 1st Place can also help you gain more skills so that you can support your child as they develop and learn, though our fun play learning activities or sessions run by health services. We help parents prepare for work or higher education though a range of courses and employment advice. We will look after your child in our on-site crèche while you attend training or advice services.

Take a look at our full timetable below to see which sessions are of interest to you.

Activities

We all know the early years of a child’s life are the most important phase of their development. That’s why 1st Place provides lots of opportunities for you and your child to learn through play, from birth to when they go to nursery or school. There is no need to book for these sessions – just drop in! Keep checking this page because new activities and events are planned every term. And remember, our Chumleigh site has a Sensory Room and a huge covered sandpit (Bananas on the Beach) open for you, free of charge, every Monday – Friday 10am – 4pm.

Learning

If you are a parent with a child under five years of age, looking for the chance to develop your skills and knowledge, 1st Place can help. From English classes to parenting courses, there are always courses or training opportunities to develop your skills in supporting your child or to help you return to work or education. We also provide free childcare when you attend.

Support

Bringing up children is not easy and all parents struggle at times. Whatever the issue, we will try to help. We know that sometimes all you need is a friendly face and a listening ear while, at other times, you may need some expert help to move forward. As well as having our own Family Support team, at 1st Place we work with a range of local professionals who can provide advice and support.

So if you’re feeling stressed, worried or down call Elena the Family Support Manager on 0207 740 8070 for more information.

My name is Cynthia and I was referred to 1st Place by my Health Visitor. I spoke to Elena the Family Support Manager, she introduced me to Caterina for counselling, and I met Sabrina the Family Support worker. They have made arrangements for my son to see the Speech and Language therapist. Aleena the Family Support worker has helped me with my temporary accommodation. 1st Place Children & Parents centre have been supporting me and my family so much. Therefore I say a big thanks to all your supportive works for making my family happy.

I have been worried about my son's non-progress with starting to talk, lack of words at nearly 17 months old and increasing tantrums since the early age of 11 months. So we were referred to Chattertime at 1st Place. The group feels very welcoming and completely unrestricted; we are free to carry on with our child's routine and encouraged to improve their behaviour, with lots of hands-on advice. I now find this group invaluable, even after only 2 months of attendance. I hope that continuing these sessions will show me how to encourage more of better communication from my son!
