We follow the Children’s Food Trust ‘Eat Better Start Better’ voluntary Early Years Guidelines. We recognise that encouraging children to eat well and learn about food in their early years protects their health when they are young as well as setting the foundations for their future health and wellbeing. Children’s behaviour is managed effectively and in a manner appropriate for their stage of development and particular needs. At 1st Place we uphold the right for all members of our community to be treated with respect and equality. Please read our Behaviour Policy to find out more.
At 1st Place we strive to apply the highest standards and quality in all that we do. If you have cause for complaint regarding the service we provide, please read our Complaints policy for Parents.
If children are brought to 1st Place we will expect them to be well enough to engage in all the activities on offer during the day including water and outside play. If your child is not well enough to do this or to last the day we would ask that you keep them at home to recover. Please read our Medication & Unwell Children Policy for more info.
The welfare of children in paramount in our nursery. In order to ensure this we follow the local safeguarding procedures approved by the local Area Safeguarding Children Board and have our own detailed policy. Everyone in 1st Place that works with children is trained to be able to carry out these procedures. If you want to find out more please read the Parents Child Protection Policy.

1st Place core opening hours are 9:00-17:00, with extended day sessions available for parents booking in advance. At registration, all parents/carers sign to say that they will abide by the terms and conditions of the nursery, and that they will keep to their agreed times of attendance. Please read our Late Collection Policy for more info.
New parents are asked to spend at least one week settling in their child. This will be a gradual process that reflects the needs of each child. Each child is treated as an individual, some may need more time (or less) at the discretion of the keyworker. Please read our Settling in procedures for early years for more info.

If you are offered and accept a place, you should complete and return the Admission forms.
The Facebook page and groups are used as a form of two ways communication with the parents and other people interested in our work. Please read the 1st Place Facebook Policy for more info.
We comply with the welfare requirement for safeguarding and promoting children’s welfare and follow the local safeguarding procedure approved by the Southwark Safeguarding Children Board. We ensure that all adults working and looking after children and working with vulnerable adults are fully trained and able to put the procedures into practice.
